Blue Lagoon Comino

Blue Lagoon, Comino Bay in Malta
This beautiful lagoon is the pride of Comino, the tiny island above the northern tip of Malta. Comino is a "carefree, car-free" island and its main attraction is the Blue Lagoon.
There is a certain desert island feel about this remote but breathtaking Mediterranean lagoon, which was naturally formed by a narrow channel between Comino and the minute Cominetto.
Its dazzlingly transparent, azure waters make it one of the Maltese islands' most famed beauty spots and it draws hundreds of tourists every day, via the many boat cruises.
The site has no beach as such, but the flat rocks around the lagoon are often full with tourists and families with children, enjoying the shallow waters. The Blue lagoon is perfect for diving and snorkelling - enjoy it at its best either early or late in the day.
The charms of the Blue Lagoon have captivated many a filmmaker, most recently Guy Ritchie for his 2002 film Swept Away. It's advisable to visit out of season if possible, as the lagoon's charm is partly lost by the crowds and motor boats.
If you're staying on the island itself, you can enjoy it without the crowds of day-trippers.
