Due to Malta's small size, you're never far from the sea. Most visitors tend to head to the north of the island, where you can take your pick from several vast stretches of soft, sandy coastline.
Most can become quite crowded in the summer months, especially at weekends - so if you prefer a quiet location, a bit of exploration off the beaten track will uncover some of Malta's hidden gems. There is a multitude of deserted coves and small beaches on each of the Maltese islands - some of these only accessible by sea.
