Couvre Porte Museum to Open in April

A museum based on life in Malta is being developed at Couvre Porte in Vittoriosa by Fondazzjoni Wirt Artna, who hopes it will open on April 15th - the same day as the 70th anniversary of the award of George Cross to Malta.
The museum will show what life in Malta was like during WW2, using modern technology to give visitors an interesting interactive experience.
Fair Competition Minister Jason Azzopardi visited the Malta at War museum site yesterday and praised FWA, an NGO which was administering the money obtained from the EU for the project.
FWA president, Mario Farrugia, said that the project began in 2004 after talks with Vittoriosa local council. EU funds were obtained in 2008 to refurbish and expand the Malta at War museum so it could incorporate the first storey of the Couvre Porte Barracks.
Mr Farrugia declared that when development of the museum is finished, it will have at least 5,000 original artefacts for visitors to observe.
These artefacts include a horse-drawn cab, two anti-aircraft guns, an anti-aircraft searchlight, various small armaments, munitions, bombs, uniforms, tools and medals.
