Car Hire
The best way to get around the island independently is in a hire car. There are plenty of car hire companies in Malta and your hotel or resort reception will be able to point you in the right direction.
As in the UK, you drive on the left in Malta and it is advisable to stick to the speed limit - 65 kph on the open road and 40kph in built up areas - to avoid hefty fines. Parking restrictions are also vigorously policed so make sure you check the signposts before leaving your car.
It is advisable to go for the fully comprehensive insurance option when you hire a car and European and international driving licenses are accepted.
Taxis
White taxis are usually in abundance outside hotels and in the tourist areas. Make sure you agree a fare before embarking on your journey to avoid any unpleasant surprises.
