Established in 1964, the family-run ta' Marija has firmly established itself as one of Malta's most original and authentic Maltese restaurants open today.
Indeed, the restaurant has been awarded the "Best Maltese Restaurant" award by the island's revered Definitive(ly) Good Guide to Restaurants every year from 2005 -2010. It also boasts an award-winning wine list.
The restaurant is proud to "celebrate Malta. Celebrates its wine, its food, its culture and its heritage". That pride shines through. The traditional Maltese food is prepared using the freshest produce available. Locally caught fish, fresh cuts of meat and fruit and vegetables harvested daily are prepared with expertise in recipes that have been handed down from generation to generation.
The traditional Maltese theme continues with the entertainment. The warm, friendly atmosphere is brought to life with regular Maltese extravaganza evenings where mandolin and guitar players stroll around the restaurant singing traditional and popular songs.
After dinner there is a Maltese folklore show with dancers in traditional costume. On a Thursday and Saturday evening there is the opportunity for diners to indulge in a spot of dancing themselves with up-tempo guitar music and a party atmosphere.
The restaurant is extremely popular with both locals and tourists meaning that booking is essential in the busy high season.
