Just a stone's throw from the famous dome in Mosta lies a real gem of a bar. Il Vecchio Forno is everything a wine bar should be.
Firstly, it serves great wine, it also serves excellent food, it has a warm, inviting ambience and the owner and his staff are pleasant and exceedingly helpful.
The restaurant was once Mosta's old bakery that had baked bread for the town's residents from 1903 until 1973. After standing empty for over thirty years the old building was converted into a wine bar in 2006.
The owners made the wise choice of leaving the old bakery's stone oven in place using it to create the focaccia it serves to customers and pizzas made the way they should be with thin, crispy crusts.
Il Vecchio is the first wine bar in Malta to supply organic wine which it imports directly from the vineyards in Tuscany. There is also a choice of around 140 local and foreign wines to please almost any palate and a well-stocked bar if you are not into wine.
The delicious home-made food, the fantastic wine and the cosy atmosphere make Il Vecchio Forno just about perfect.
