Il Forn

Il Forn in Malta
This interesting wine bar in the old village of Birgu is not only serves great drinks, it also doubles up as an art gallery.
The bar's rooms and furniture were decorated and partially designed by the Austrian artist Clemens Hasengschwandtner who looks on the building as an ever evolving art project.
The bar, which is reached after a stroll through Birgu's narrowly winding, historical streets, is bright and welcoming. Combining the historical building, which was built in 1637, with modern, experimental artwork on the walls, Il Forn is trendy but unpretentious and is a welcome addition to the, otherwise sleepy, village.
The old villages have really had an injection of life since bars such as this have opened up and the locals have taken them to heart.
Il Forn's exhaustive wine list spans many international varieties and regions and is complimented by a well-balanced menu with food that is just right for eating while you enjoy good company and fine wines. It gets very busy at weekends here so it is always a good idea to reserve a table, especially during summer.
