The Royal Malta Golf Club is the island's primary golf venue and offers a course that is tough enough to challenge seasoned golfers without being too demanding for novices.
Malta's enviable climate makes the golf club an ideal venue for out of season golfing breaks or a day's game during a family holiday.
The Royal Malta Golf Club dates back to 1888, then the game was played in the trenches of the fortification walls of Valletta. At the time the then Duke of Edinburgh was serving in Malta and became a founding member of the club.
The RMGC moved to its present location at the beginning of the twentieth century where it has developed into the beautiful course it is now. The most significant development has been the installation of an irrigation system that keeps the course evergreen.
The RMGC has some excellent holes, in particular the par 3 Hole 4. Known as the Maid's Bedroom it is the club's signature hole, it is not especially difficult but it is the most picturesque.
A PGA qualified teaching professional is available to coach beginners or help improve handicaps. Adjacent to Royal Malta Golf Club is its sister facility the Marsa Sports Club.
There are nineteen tennis courts, five squash courts, mini golf, a bowling alley, swimming pool, bar and restaurant to keep non-golfing partners and family occupied.
