Boat Trips in Malta
Malta has one of the most enviable coastlines on the Mediterranean and one of the best ways to appreciate the natural beauty of its secluded coves, amazing lagoons and dramatic cliffs is by boat.
There are many trips available varying from day-long cruises around Malta to sunset cruises and a party boat. Two of the most popular trips are the Grand Harbour tour and an excursion to the Blue lagoon located just off Comino.
The Grand Harbour tour is a 45 minute exploration of the one of the world's greatest natural harbours and its history. Aboard a traditional Maltese Dghajsa (pronounced day-sa) passengers will discover the role that the harbour has played in Malta's rich and colourful past with a multi-lingual commentary as well as taking in the sights of Fort St. Elmo, the Three Cities, Fort San Angelo and Valletta itself.
The Dghajsa begins and ends the tour from Pinto Wharf on the superbly restored Valletta Waterfront. The original stores and warehouses used by the Knights of St. John have been sympathetically renovated exceeding their former glory.
The area also has some good restaurants and is a great place to finish the evening if you opt for the evening tour which also includes a bottle of wine. This romantic trip often sees passengers getting married on board, although the marriage is only valid for the length of the cruise.
The trip to the Blue Lagoon is a usually a half-day excursion with the chance to swim and snorkel in the stunning bay. The gorgeous, sheltered waters are crystal clear and the bed of the lagoon is pure white sand.
Around the lagoon pathways provide a chance to explore Comino's tranquil landscape and the rocky coves make for ideal sunbathing spots. It is not hard to see why the trip is popular and it is recommended that you book in advance for any of these cruises.
